With an electric lift chair, the number of motors determines how many movements you can adjust independently. Swiss Relax sells lift chairs with 2 and 3 motors — this article explains the practical difference so you can make an informed choice.
2-motor lift chair
In a 2-motor model, such as the Malmo (starting from €999) or the Medicare DUO (starting from €999), the first motor controls the lift function together with the footrest: when the chair tilts forward to help you stand up, the footrest automatically moves inwards. The second motor independently controls the backrest. This means two control buttons and slightly fewer intermediate positions, but also simpler operation and a lower price.
3-motor lift chair
In a 3-motor model, such as the ErgoPush (starting from €1599), the backrest, leg rest, and lift function are each driven by their own motor. Because the leg rest operates independently of the lift movement, you can keep your feet elevated while the backrest is reclined — a lying intermediate position that is not possible with 2 motors. For those who spend a lot of time in the chair, this provides more comfort positions.
Which one should you choose?
Do you primarily need help standing up, and do you not use the chair all day for lying down? Then 2 motors are usually sufficient, and you save on the price. If you spend many hours in your lift chair, or if you want to be able to adjust the leg rest and backrest completely independently of each other? Then a 3-motor model is the better choice.
What do you get with both?
Whether you choose 2 or 3 motors: every Swiss Relax lift chair is delivered free of charge, comes with a 2-year legal warranty with our own repair service, and you have 30 days to return the chair if it doesn't suit you. You can also try out both types in our showroom in Roeselare, every Saturday from 13:00 to 17:00.
