Your new seat usage tips
Care & Maintenance of Your Recliner
Thank you for choosing Swiss-Relax.be. Follow these simple maintenance steps to keep your new recliner comfortable, quiet and working perfectly for years to come.
Upholstery Care
- Weekly dusting: Use a soft brush to vacuum crevices where crumbs and dust accumulate.
- Spills: Blot spills immediately with a dry, clean cloth. Never rub.
- Leather: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner every 12 months to prevent cracking. You can find such products (like those from HG) at the supermarket.
Mechanism Maintenance
- Lubrication: If the chair squeaks, apply a small amount of silicone spray to the moving hinges.
- Keep the Path Clear: Make sure no rugs, cables or pet toys get caught in the metal frame.
Most Common Issues
- Children playing: During holidays, children sometimes play with the chair and, for example, twist the cables until they break. Do not let children play with a chair. If this does happen, first unplug all power cables to prevent damage.
- Bent or broken hinge system: This often happens when too much weight rests on the extended footrest (for example, by leaning on it when standing up, or children sitting on it).
Pro Tips for a Long Lifespan
Always lower yourself gently into your recliner rather than letting yourself fall into it. Dropping into the chair puts sudden, immense pressure on the wooden frame and springs, which can lead to breakage over time. Also, never sit on the footrest when it is extended; it is designed solely to support the weight of your legs.
Squeaking is normal because metal rubs against metal over time. Fully extend the chair, turn it over, and apply a dry silicone-based lubricant or lithium grease to the hinges and springs. Open and close the chair a few times to let the lubricant work in, and wipe away any excess.
- Never place the transformer under a (warm) radiator.
- The green light indicates that everything is working properly.
- Make sure the cables are securely connected to the transformer.
- Cable safety: Keep power cables untangled and route them away from the metal lifting mechanism to prevent pinching or breakage.
- Rest for the Motor: Avoid repeatedly pressing the open/close buttons in quick succession to prevent the motor from overheating.
You cannot physically lock these, but this isn't necessary. You can do this with the remote control. The wheels are mounted on the chair's frame. As soon as you raise the chair slightly, the wheels lift off the ground and the chair is locked in place.

Turning the seat
Important for all swivel recliners (including Malmo, Palermo, Zero Gravity, Vivaldi):
- Make sure the cable does not get pinched when turning — this can cause breakage or damage.
- Do not let children play with the chair and warn older users of this risk.
- If (grand)children still want to play, first disconnect all cables.

Moving seat?
Please note when moving the seat:
- Always hold the armrests to move the seat.
- Do not grab the backrest as shown in the example — this may cause it to come loose.

Movable Topswing
- Applicable to all chairs, except the Medicare and Medicare DUO.
- It is therefore best to stand behind or next to the chair, and then you can tilt the topswing. It is normal for it to be a bit stiff at first. So you can push it forward or push it backward.= (so do not pull).
- We cannot emphasize enough that the first time you have to use quite a lot of force. A new chair is like a new pair of shoes and needs some time to settle. From the second and especially the 3rd time this will go a lot smoother!
- Do not pull the cushion (your seams may come loose or you may tear the cushion), but push it forward or backward.

Battery
After purchase, Li-Ion batteries need +/- 5 discharges to reach their maximum power. In the first phase, the cells of the battery are formed. It is therefore important to actually do this after the purchase.
- The continuous 'deep discharge' of any battery greatly limits its lifespan. Charge it occasionally, even if the battery is not yet "flat".
- Store the battery in a dry environment and keep it away from sunlight. A Li-Ion battery degrades at high temperature. Close to a window in direct sunlight, for example, is not recommended.
- Avoid charging Li-Ion batteries in the sun. Heat combined with the sun and a full charge causes stress.
- Sixty degrees is the maximum allowed temperature.
- Do not charge below freezing point.
- When the battery is charged, unplug it from the socket. This will considerably extend its lifespan. Leaving a 100% charged battery connected to the mains is detrimental to any battery.
How far can I go on one charge?
The range depends on many factors. For that reason, an accurate indication is not possible. How often do you use your chair, how much does the user weigh, how old is the battery, etc.
Place the battery at the back of the chair, on the floor.

Seams of the chair
- Never pull on your chairs as shown in the photo. This can cause the seams to come loose.
- If you wish to move the chair, for example, lift it with two people.

Upholstery fabric
- Vacuum regularly
Use a soft brush nozzle to remove dust and crumbs and prevent dirt build-up. - Treat stains immediately
Gently blot stains with a dry cloth (do not rub). Use a mild or special textile cleaning agent and test it first on an inconspicuous spot. - Prevent damage
Avoid sharp objects and do not let pets on the chair to prevent tears and wear.

How often should you oil leather?
In general, it is recommended to condition leather once a year . However, if it is often exposed to sunlight (think of a veranda), then 2 times a year is better to prevent drying out and cracking. Do not do this more often and always in moderation.

Leather
Good maintenance keeps your chair looking good and extends its lifespan.
- Clean regularly: Remove dust and dirt with a soft cloth or vacuum cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials and aggressive products.
- Protect from sunlight: Do not place the chair in direct sunlight to prevent discoloration and drying out.
- Treat stains immediately: Blot up spilled liquid immediately and then use a suitable leather cleaner (test first on an inconspicuous spot).
- Feed the leather: Apply a leather cream annually to keep the material supple.
